News from NCHE (North Carolinians for Home Education) March 1, 2017

    Capital Fest, March 7
    Registration Deadline Friday Noon
NCHE's Capital Fest is a special day full of activities for NC homeschoolers to meet with their legislators, attend special workshops on NC's legislative, executive and judicial systems and enjoy state museums. We have added some opportunities for tours and museums. For more information and to register go to our website. This event is free; however, a Chick-fil-A lunch is available. The deadline to register for the lunch is noon this Friday, March 3.

Q: Do we need to be there the whole day?
A: No, you can participate any part of the day.
Q: Can I bring young children?
A: Yes, Capital Fest is for the whole family.
Q: How do we get tickets for the Supreme Court tour?
    A: Tickets will be available at sign-in on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Q: How to I contact my legislators for an appointment?
A: You can find a list of representatives and senators here.
Q: What if I can't make an appointment with my representative or senator?
A: You can still go by their offices and meet their legislative assistants.

    Legislative Alert Update
HB136, titled Lower Compulsory Attendance Age From 7 to 6,proposes to change the compulsory school attendance age from 7 to 6 years old. As it is currently worded, NCHE is opposed to the bill. The main reason that we oppose the bill is that it would cause the testing of 6-year-old homeschooled children. However, we are negotiating to reach an agreement. We will keep you posted.
See last week's email for a list of sponsors.
