I am somewhat neutral on the subject of a virtual school option. Part of me is always glad for another option for parents but part of me knows that this masquerades as homeschooling when it really is not. It can meet some families needs but others will think they have tried "homeschooling" without any of its real freedom and flexibility.

"Folks, This Ain't Normal" by Joel Salatin has gotten me thinking more locally these days. (Such a GREAT book!) So, I got to thinking...Homeschooling seems to be exploding to the point that most people probably are surrounded by homeschoolers right in their neighborhood and just don't realize it! I found this to be true myself recently, when I posted on our neighborhood's Facebook page.

So, that got me to thinking some more...Why not start some groups on WINGS for neighborhoods? If we knew our neighbors and could connect with them, it would build the sense of community I think many homeschoolers are still searching for. And with gas prices soaring, it would save on running around the city so much. We could all connect much more locally!

So, I have created the first of hopefully many neighborhood groups on WINGS. You can find it at the link below and then CREATE YOUR OWN! Think how much time and energy (in more ways than one) we could save if we had homeschooling neighbors we could connect with so easily! I'd love to see a return to tight-knit local communities where everyone helps each other. This could be one more way.
We usually try to do math through the summer and will be extra diligent this summer because we got behind...new babies do that! :juggle: That said, my son was a year ahead and my daughter was working two years ahead, so it wasn't a big deal to drop back. Our good friends are helping to make a documentary that will be entered in the San Antonio Christian Film Festival next year. It is on the topic of birth control. They are looking for people to interview from both "sides" of the issue, so if you are interested, please go to their site and let them know! I believe this movie is going to be big. They already have some big names involved, so I'm really looking forward to seeing what happens! Here's the link...

Hey moms! My family is trying to find a new church. I know everybody's view on what "their church" looks like is different, but we would like to find one with more homeschoolers (since homeschoolers typically have similar interests and philosophies as us). Would you all be willing to make any recommendations on what is available out there (maybe with a description of what you've witnessed within the church)? We really haven't started an in-depth search yet, but I thought I might get some ideas here first.

Thanks!
